Positions and roles in the team
The rugby union team consists of
fifteen players on the pitch at one time while having eight subs you can
replace the people starting on the pitch. The rugby team is split up into two
sets of players, the forwards and the Backs.
The forwards
The forwards or the "pack"
have the main responsibility of gaining and retaining the possession of the
ball. In these responsibilities, it includes the scrum and the line-out. (which
will be explained in a later blog) they also have to attack the line with the
ball to make their way to the opposing teams try-line. they also have to defend
the opposing team when they don't have the ball.
The backs
The backs are generally smaller in
weight but not height and are usually more agile than the forwards. The role of
the backs is to create alternative scoring options to the forwards. The usually
achieve these options by creating and doing set moves that fix and confuse the
opposing defence.
The captain
The captain generally speaking is
usually a forward but doesn't have to be. The captain’s role in the team is not
only to be a leader but has the important role in the rugby match that he is
the only player allowed to talk to the referee. So it is his job to make sure
the referee is seeing all of the happenings on the pitch and if the referee is
not seeing these happenings it is his job to tell the referee to look out for
them so his team is not getting done wrong to them.
